At last count, the event has raised £3500 which blew the original target out of the water!
Last Saturday (27th April) saw me dancing in a lovely little cinema in Southport, helping to raise funds on behalf of a family who had suffered a great loss due to a brain tumour. One of my students knew the wife of the sufferer, and asked if I would be able to dance for them as part of the entertainment. What a lovely event it was! Lovely people in a lovely venue, and a wonderful audience who greeted me extremely well.

A few weeks ago I was approached by Samantha, a diploma student working on a project. She wanted to do a film about belly dance and the misconceptions people have towards it. Since then, we have been in touch discussing what she wanted to do in this film, and last night we actually did the filming. In what was rather blistery weather I was filmed driving into the car park and parking up. Walking to m venue, and through the door. And then the fun began. Myself and student Emma were interviewed and afterwards I taught my beginners class as usual, just with recording going on. I wanted Samantha's film to be really visual and colourful so we used veils. After the class, Emma and I then performed our Shamadan choreography both in class gear, and then in costume. It was great fun and I hope that the editing goes smoothly. And as a total surprise look what I got!! Great times. Phew! What a great night last night was. Two great classes:
Class one: Improvers. Working on performance skills. Well done ladies. Class two: the first Beginners Crash Course of the year and what a turn out! I can't remember the room looking so full. A lovely bunch of ladies. Looking forward to next week. Onwards and upwards. Not long been back from teaching my first Summer Workshop. We explored some of the different dances found in Egypt. I think good fun was had by all.
Looking forward to Workshop No. 2. Why not and join us for some summer fun? I'm beginning to feel nerves but excitement at the prospect of dancing in the Penwortham Gala tomorrow afternoon. We had to miss last year because the weather was even worse than the previous year (as per photo above), so I'm desperately hoping this lovely weather we've been having holds. Costume - sorted. Hair - sorted. Music - sorted. Students - all ready. So come and join us for a fun-packed afternoon and offer your support. Spent a lovely day up in Windermere on Saturday with Kerry and the girls. Absolutely beautiful weather for the photographs. It was great fun, dancing to Sia's "Cheap Thrills".
Groove Looking forward to the Groove taster class tonight. Same place at the later time of 7.17pm. www.facebook.com/sarahswirledbellydance/?ref=bookmarks Spent a lovely morning with Jess and the girls celebrating her engagement. Everyone worked so hard, and the costumes looked amazing. Watching the video back this afternoon made me want to cry - you all looked so good having danced for such a short time! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Really hope you did too. Congratulations again to Jess. Hope everything goes well on the big day xx |
AuthorHi. I'm Sarah. I have been learning belly dance for what feels a very long time, but I still love it as much now as I did then. If you, dear reader, have been thinking about giving it go and haven't yet done so, now is the time. Take the plunge and join me (and many others) in this fabulous, joyous dance. Archives
