Summer Workshops

Due to popular demand I will be offering four workshops during the summer holidays. They are open to all, so no previous experience required. These workshops will not be concentrating on technique, but rather will be concentrating on teaching something different. They are designed to be fun and informative, some light entertainment during summer.

Venue: Penwortham Youth & Community Centre, 3 Priory Lane, Penwortham, Preston, PR1 0AR

Time: 6.30pm - 8pm

Workshops 1: 17th July: Characters Within Belly Dance



Belly dance isn't just about learning the moves. It also involves expressing yourself. In this workshop you will explore some of the different versions of you, from the sassy and cheeky, to the powerful and strong, and a few in between

Workshop 2: 31st July: Melaya

Melaya is a traditional folkloric dance which has influences from Alexandrian dance. It is a flirty character dance which is full of fun. Be ready to flirt in this workshop!

Workshop 3: 14th August : Saidi

Saidi is one of the more masculine dances belonging to Raqs Sharki and involves the dancer using one or two sticks made of bamboo. The dance originates from Upper Egypt between Giza and Edfu. The dance is a strong and powerful one.

In this workshop, you will learn how to manipulate the stick, learn a few tricks with it, and learn how to dance with it.

Workshop 4: 28th August: Veil

The veil is a beautiful prop which can add so much to your dance. Typically used as a way of adding drama to your entrance, it can be used throughout your dance.

In this workshop, learn how to use the veil, how to manipulate it, and how to add that extra wow factor.


All workshops cost £10 each and need to be booked in advance. Included in this price are class hand-outs with notes for each workshop to enhance your learning.
