About
I first started learning belly dance in 1995 when I was 25 during a rebellious stage in my life when I wanted to do something different. It wasn't long before belly dance took over my life and I became obsessed with learning more; more about the dance and more about the culture.
For many years I was happy just attending weekly classes and workshops around the country, but when I was asked about becoming a teacher myself (something I had never considered), I decided to sign myself onto the JWAAD training program.
After completing the Safe delivery of belly dance classes course in 2008, I then set up my first dance class in my local village of Hesketh Bank. Classes began promising enough, but gradually numbers fell, and I ended up cancelling those lessons and trying again but on a different night. Again, all was well to begin, but after a few months I decided to cancel those too, and move to a larger catchment area.
I moved my classes to Penwortham in 2010, and this is when I consider my business as really starting. This proved to be the turning point of the business, and I haven't looked back since.
Credentials
I am committed to not only providing good quality and professional service, but to also developing myself, both as a performer and as a teacher. I do this by attending workshops and by taking part in dance projects around the country (which have obviously proven difficult during 2020/2021 due to COVID), some of which I have written about in my 'Out and About' pages.
I have completed the JWAAD Safe Delivery of Belly Dance Classes which is accredited and of 'A' level standard.
At present, I am signed onto the JWAAD Personal Development Program to further improve my dance technique, but once I have reached the neccessary level, I plan to sign on to the Teaching Diploma to further my learning.
I am an affiliate member of the JTA (JWAAD Teachers' Association), the only professional association in the Uk for belly dancers.
I have full public liability insurance, and I also hold a current CRB.
