From Egypt to Penrith
Last year, From Egypt to Penrith with Love proved very popular, and this year promises to be as good. The show this year is completely different, with new performers, new dances and new costumes.
A magical afternoon of Egyptian music and dance, with local soloists and group dances choreographed by Kay Taylor. We shall also have live drumming from Rhythmic Ginger and other fab guest appearances.. Last year was a sellout, don't miss this years. Well, after three long weekends of travel and rehearsal, this project is now sadly over. There have been laughs galore, as well as hard times, but new friends have been made.
Weekend one started out with doubts and worries for me personally as I didn't know where I was going exactly, having never been to Carlisle before, and wondering who else was going to be doing this project, but I needn't have worried. From the word go, everyone got on and we all felt at ease. The days were long but enjoyable, and we had lovely toasty warm feet all thanks to the underfloor heating which was Fab-u-lous daaarling. I was very tired but happy by the end of the weekend.
Weekend two started off badly for both Gail and myself. We arrived at Preston Railway Station only to discover 45 minutes later that there were no trains going north from Preston, and that we had to catch a non-existent bus to Lancaster and catch a train from there. Luckily, we were able to cadge a lift from Philip and finally arrived at Lancaster. We caught a train and were relieved for about half an hour when we discovered that we had actually caught the coastal train, and that we wouldn't arrive in Carlisle until 3pm!! We were NOT happy, and so needless to say our moods did not improve much for the rest of the day. It didn't help that after the days' rehearsal, we got absolutely soaked through walking to our B&B, there was a mile-long queue at the takeaway when I was starving, and I had to spend the night along on my disastrous birthday because I wasn't feeling in a sociable mood. Sunday was a much better day, although I was still not in a good place, but the girls helped to uplift my spirits so that by the afternoon I was feeling much happier. It also helped that that we were treated to chocolate birthday cake.....
This weekend (22nd & 23rd Nov), was our final weekend which culminated in the show which we had been rehearsing for. Saturday was spent revising our choreographies and finalising our numbers with Adam (our drummer). Sunday was dress rehearsal day and the final thing. All went well: the show was fabulous and a great time was had by all.
