New Beginnings

9/10/2026

Last night saw the start of a new term, and with it the start of a new project. Namely, a choerography in preparation for my upcoming Halloween event at the end of October.

Exciting times, and everyone did really well.

Keep up the good work. I'm really excited with this one, although there may be a few changes here and there once I get a better feel for it myself.

Ready for the Return!

Today has been a rather gratifying day, in that I have managed to achieve several things successfully.

Firstly, I have (possibly) completed my Halloween choreography which I shall be able to start teaching when I return next week. I am rather excited about it, although I appreciate that I may yet change things slightly to better improve it - artistic license and all that. I also find that sometimes moves just come to you after you've been dancing it for a while.

Secondly, I believe I have finished writing up a delightful choreography that I learned whilst away at Summer School. I decided that I wanted to try a new style of dance whilst I was away, and I loved the strange 9/8 rhythm and the graceful, elegant movements. I am rather hoping to be able to tailor this to make it more "mine", and perhaps even perform it sometime next year. I'm not sure - time will tell.

Thirdly, I am in the process of updating my website finally. It has been a long time since I amended my website to be fair. However, life rather took over towards the end of 2025 and, what with one stressful situation after another, I had no time for anything other than the immediate crises.

Anyway, I am feeling quite accomplished right now, but I am now going to have a rest.

Only three weeks left before we officially break up for the summer, can you believe it?

Our last lesson in this term is on 1st July, and I am planning a little mini hafla for the girls.

If you would like to join me for any of these classes, you are most welcome.

But don't despair! I am going to be running four workshops over the summer, each with a specific topic, and they are open to all. More details can be found on my Summer Workshop page.

Who doesn't enjoy a good party?

I was fortunate enough to be invited as the guest speaker for Chadderton W..I who were celebrating their 10th anniversary last week.

Before we all enjoyed a lovely buffet, I entertained the ladies with my talk and demonstration before encouraging some of the ladies to get up and dance with me.

It was great fun and I got to do it all over again the following night for the lovely ladies at Cabus W.I

What a fun week!

I've just received a lovely review from Slyne-With-Hest  Women's Institute and it's made my day, so I just had to share:

"So happy with our booking. Sarah came at last minute and basically saved the day! Her talk was engagin, informative and fun. I received lotes of positive feedback from our members. Thanks for a great evening."

You can't ask better than that :-)

Last Saturday (27th April) saw me dancing in a lovely little cinema in Southport, helping to raise funds on behalf of a family who had suffered a great loss due to a brain tumour. One of my students knew the wife of the sufferer, and asked if I would be able to dance for them as part of the entertainment. What a lovely event it was! Lovely people in a lovely venue, and a wonderful audience who greeted me extremely well.

At last count, the event has raised £3500 which blew the original target out of the water!

Big Surprise!!

A few weeks ago I was approached by Samantha, a diploma student working on a project. She wanted to do a film about belly dance and the misconceptions people have towards it. Since then, we have been in touch discussing what she wanted to do in this film, and last night we actually did the filming.

In what was rather blistery weather I was filmed driving into the car park and parking up. Walking to m venue, and through the door. And then the fun began.

Myself and student Emma were interviewed and afterwards I taught my beginners class as usual, just with recording going on. I wanted Samantha's film to be really visual and colourful so we used veils.

After the class, Emma and I then performed our Shamadan choreography both in class gear, and then in costume.

It was great fun and I hope that the editing goes smoothly.

And as a total surprise look what I got!!

Great times.

Phew! What a great night last night was. Two great classes:

Class one: Improvers. Working on performance skills. Well done ladies.

Class two: the first Beginners Crash Course of the year and what a turn out! I can't remember the room looking so full. A lovely bunch of ladies. Looking forward to next week.

Onwards and upwards.

.  (and there are loads)Hi. I'm Sarah. I have been learning belly dance for what feels a very long time, but I still love it as much now as I did then. If you, dear reader, have been thinking about giving it go and haven't yet done so, now is the time. Take the plunge and join me (and many others) in this fabulous, joyous dance. Why? There are LOADS of reasons why: see some of the benefits on my Benefits page (and there are loads, physical and mental). It's FUN.

What my students say

"I loved the workshop. It was really friendly, inclusive and fun. I thought the level was just fine and suited everyone"

"Many thanks for (another) great workshop. I like your attention to warm-up, ways to make it work for the learner, and the warm down."

I would recommend (Sarah Swirled). She is very pleasant and polite, and has a great personality that reaches out to everyone.
